Technology Development Board has entered into an agreement on 24th March, 2018 with M/s Sampurn Agri Ventures Pvt. Ltd., Chandigarh, Punjab for Project entitled “Development and commercialization of Biogas and Bio-Enriched Organic Manure Plant utilizing only paddy straw”.

Sampurn Agri Ventures Pvt Ltd (SAVPL) has developed the novel retreatment process of Rice Crop Stubble (Paddy Straw) to produce Biogas and fermented manure.

The technology for the fermenting of paddy straw on a commercial scale was indigenously derived from the basic anaerobic digestion process along with its pre-treatment. It has been further upgraded & fine-tuned in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi. SAVPL’s plant at Fazilka is the first of its kind in the world to be able to process Paddy Straw on a commercial scale for gainful management of paddy straw.

The design of the pre-treatment & process around paddy straw is unique to break its lignin to expose cellulose & hemicellulose contents for extracting value in the form of biogas. It avoids burning of Paddy Straw which causes a menace environmentally by generation of smog and black carbon. The Bio-gas produced after its purification can be sold to a prospective buyer. Additionally, the remnant compost is processed further to produce bio-enriched manure which has a good potential for sustainable agriculture. The bio-enriched manure can be customized as per the soil condition such as acidic, alkaline or neutral. The project is also helpful to create much required rural employment for the population.
