The Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) visited the company’s premises to review the progress of the projectentitled “Development and Commercialization of Ubimedique Acute Care System (UMACS)” being implementedbyM/s Mobilexion Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Thiruvananthapuram through TDB’s soft loan.

To cater to the widespread need especially in rural and primary health centers of the country in case of emergency and other cases where specialized consultation is required, the company has developed UMACS. Itis a full-fledged ICU and ward automation system. The system requires only a trolley tablet, Wi-Fi connectivity within the ICU, internet bandwidth that may be provided using a 3G/4G data card and a small amount of storage in a computing cloud. The trolley tablet captures the clinical information from existing case sheets, sections of which are captured on the cloud computer from where it is digitized (offline, in parallel) and converted into clinical data amenable to automated analysis. The consulting clinician is provided with a mobile application that accesses the cloud ubiquitously whenever it is required.The system can also communicate with medical devices in the ICU to collect vital parameters from them so that manual entry could be reduced.

The product might be a game changer for providing affordable health to people in remote areas of the country. Financially, TDB first provided a grant assistance to develop the prototype version of UMACS after whicha loan assistance was sanctioned to commercialize the UMACS.

MC tested the embedded medical devices such as ECG monitor, vital sign monitor, tele-stethoscope and communication facilities such as cameras, mic, amplifier, speaker, close examination camera etc. of fully functional UMACS. The project is ready for field trials. After success of the field trials, UMACS will be commercialized by the year end.
