Dr. Bindu Dey
Dr. Bindu Dey is Secretary, Technology Development Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. She is MSc, M.Phil, Ph. D in Zoology from the University of Delhi. She has been associated with Policy and Planning of the S & T Sector from her Planning Commission Days early in her career. Thereafter, she worked as a Lecturer in one of the Delhi University Colleges. She continued her project work on “Decentralization of S & T Planning” while teaching.
She joined the Department of Biotechnology in 1992 and worked as Science Manager, Funder and Planner for activities associated with project financing in Bio-medical area. She further specialized in Medical Ethics through a defined course from NLSUI, Bengaluru. Dr. Dey has been deeply involved with leading institutions in human clinical trials; and has more than 20 publications on Drug; Vaccines and Immunomodulation trials. She has good exposure in the field of IPR, Large Data Management & Analysis and Administrative reforms. Many vaccines and drugs are now registered for human use. She has worked in untraveled science areas i.e. Cancers, Metabolic Disorders, Renal Biology, and Neuroscience etc. She has been involved in supporting biomarker discovery; diagnostics; vaccine development and clinical trials of modern & traditional drugs in disease of national relevance that led to development of infrastructure and critical human resource.
Dr. Dey has played a crucial role in catalyzing the development of infrastructure in the Bio-medical Institutions & Medical Colleges of the North-East Region for research, training & patient’s services and starting major programs on Cancer Immunology and Biomarker Discovery in the state of J & K. On personal front, she is the co-founder of “Chandrabimb Foundation” wherein vision is “ From Therapeutics to Prevention”. She is member of many key committees in the Government of India and Advisor to several national & international organizations.
At TDB, her work profile includes funding companies aiming to upscale, manufacture and commercialize indigenous R & D leads and imported technologies for wider domestic use. She has inculcated the philosophy of proactively interacting, networking and collaborating with all stakeholders towards commercialization of innovative product/process/services in the areas of: Drugs & Pharmaceuticals; Minerals, Ceramics; Chemicals, Green energy etc.
